linux software showing %var17% statistics

hey,

I've recently installed 2 machines with a brand new install of k/xubuntu and gave them whatpulse 2.8.1 to track the usage. (which i've been doing for many years with all windows/linux machines i've installed for many years now).

But those two last machines i've installed are encountering a weird issue; when i look at the stats (most used programs, most downloaded, -> the link you can click at the bottom of the UPTIME tab) then all the stats are showing %VAR17% where the value should be. even on the bottom of those tabs it's like that.
so it's saying; you rebooted your computer %VAR17% times

I know this must be a bug or something.. now i'm curious on how we can solve this.

Info i can give is;
It's happening on brand new installs of Kubuntu and Xubuntu 17.04 which were set up with all the preq's that are needed to run a normal whatpulse installation. (so libssl-dev, all the libqt's, the input script was run, ncap was installed.
And it's not like Whatpulse isn't counting anything, like it's really tracking everything (up/download, uptime, key/mouse, apps running...) but when you open that stats screen it says nothing but %var17%, even for things that i'm sure of that have numbers in the database like the average per day or the apps running at the time (which are shown, but not the amount in the stats)

i've added two screenshots so you can see what i mean ...
