Nothing Counting while Logged on Direct after Prior RDP Session

I want to say first that I understand and agree with the reasoning behind not recording anything while an RDP session is detected.

I don't know how long this issue has existed but I only noticed it within the last couple of weeks. Here's the scenario.

I'm a sysadmin so frequently I remote to my work desktop after hours (Windows 7 Enterprise with WhatPulse installed). During that session nothing is counted, as expected. Sometimes it's necessary to leave something running on my desktop so I disconnect RDP without logging off. Then when I return to the office I'm logging back into that session, except now I'm actually at the computer. WhatPulse is not detecting that properly - it's as if I'm still connected remotely. However if I exit the client and run again it resumes. One extra note - the uptime statistic is correct for the total logged in time.

This had to have changed somewhat recently. I'm a long time user of WhatPulse and I've also been operating this way for work almost the same amount of time. To my knowledge the client has previously properly detected if I'm remote or on the console.
